SIDS SURVIVAL KIT

We believe that it’s important for bereaved families to receive information as soon as possible after their loss.  But we also know that it is equally important to continue to “touch” those families often throughout the toughest part of the grief process – the first year.  For this reason, our SIDS Survival Kit is more than just a one-time mailing of informative materials. It's a series of mailings, sent at significant times during the first year after the loss.

Part I
(sent as soon as possible after the loss)

SIDS and Infant Death Survival Guide: Information and Comfort for Grieving Family and Friends & Professionals Who Seek to Help Them, by Joani Nelson Horchler and Robin Rice. This book contains research materials and news articles on SIDS, as well as poetry and stories of other surviving families.
For families with surviving siblings, When Someone Very Special Dies: Children Can Learn to Cope with Grief, by Marge Heegaard will be included. This book teaches the basic concepts of death and helps children understand and express the many feelings they have when someone special dies, while allowing them to illustrate their books with their personal story. 
A subscription to the Tiny Handprints newsletter, sent quarterly.
The first book in a four-part series entitled Journeying through Grief, distributed by Stephens Ministries. Each book describes issues and feelings that people tend to encounter at various points during their grief and offers suggestions on how to handle them.

Part II
(sent three months after the loss)

The second book in a four-part series entitled Journeying through Grief, distributed by Stephens Ministries. 

Parts III & IV

The final two books in the Journeying through Grief series, sent at six months and eleven months after the loss.
Continued mailings of our Tiny Handprints newsletter, as long as the family wishes to receive them.
